2900 miles! That's what we got on the first Continental rear tire on the Calfee tandem. For reference, we rarely would get over 1000 miles with a Specialized Expedition or Nimbus on our rear wheel on the Davidson tandem.
As far as the captain's fit on the bike, we got some long reach handlebars from Tandems East, and those, together with a 135mm stem has solved the numb hand problem on the front position. It now feels as comfortable as my most comfortable single road bike.
